The man suspected of raping a woman last month outside her Thornton Park home was taken into custody Tuesday by U.S. Marshals.

James Calixte, 36, was arrested near West Palm Beach, where some of his family members reside, Orlando police said at a news conference Wednesday.

OPD Chief Orlando Rolón said the U.S. Marshals Service “immediately after they received word from our detectives, our fugitive unit, they began their search and were able to locate [Calixte].”

He was compliant with authorities when taken into custody, OPD Sgt. Charles Crosby said Wednesday.

Police said Calixte attacked a woman outside her east Jefferson Street home Oct. 26, forcing her around to the side of her house, where he raped her.

Calixte’s arrest is “the next step in the healing process for our victim,” Crosby said.

The assault came weeks after another woman in the Lake Eola neighborhood was grabbed by a man as she returned to her apartment on Cathcart Street from a walk. The suspect in that incident, Michael T. Scarlett, turned himself in to authorities Monday.
